State Police Arrest Two Suspects for Carjacking

The Delaware State Police have arrested a 14-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, both from New Castle, Delaware, for a carjacking that occurred at a Claymont Wawa Tuesday afternoon.

On August 22, 2023, at approximately 1:52 p.m., troopers responded to Wawa located at 2621 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, for a report of a carjacking that had just occurred. Upon arriving at the scene, troopers learned that two juvenile suspects carjacked a 59-year-old man’s Ford Escape from the Wawa parking lot and fled southbound on Philadelphia Pike with the victim’s car. Responding troopers located the Escape at the BP Gas Station located at 708 Philadelphia Pike and a pursuit ensued into Wilmington. The suspects stopped the vehicle in the area of 25th Street and Tatnall Street in Wilmington and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Troopers took custody of the 14-year-old suspect without incident.

Troopers continued searching the surrounding area for the second suspect, who was not located at the time, but has been identified.

The 14-year-old was taken to Troop 1 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Robbery Second Degree (Felony)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on a $22,000 cash bail.

On August 23, 2023, Troop 2 Robbery Detectives and the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force located the 16-year-old suspect at a Claymont area motel. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with the following crimes at Troop 1:

  • Robbery Second Degree (Felony)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on a $6,000 cash bail.
