Delaware State Police Investigating Attempted Robbery of Gas Station Newark

Newark- The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred at a Shell gas station located in Newark, DE.

The incident occurred on September 28, 2021, at approximately 2:46 a.m., when troopers were dispatched to the Shell gas station located at 1148 Christiana Road, Newark for a report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was learned that a male suspect approached the sales counter and purchased a cigar. After the transaction, the employee closed the drawer to the cash register at which time the suspect demanded he reopen it. The employee refused so the suspect lifted his shirt and implied he had a weapon tucked in his waistband demanding he open the cash register. The employee then advised the suspect the police were on their way and the suspect fled the store on foot without obtaining any money.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

There are currently no photos of the suspect available at this time.

The suspect was described as a thin black male approximately 50 years of age, wearing all dark clothing and a black face mask.
