Drug Investigation Leads to the Discovery of a Firearm New Castle

New Castle– The Delaware State Police have arrested 20-year-old Nicai Woodruff on felony drug and weapon charges.

On September 3, 2020, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force (GTF), conducted proactive patrols in the area of S. Dupont Hwy. (Rt. 13) and Christiana Rd. (Rt. 273), New Castle. Unit members observed a subject conducting suspected drug transactions in the parking lot of Wawa located at 117 S. Dupont Hwy., New Castle. GTF members approached the suspected seller in the parking lot and identified the suspect as Nicai Woodruff. Further investigation revealed Woodruff was in possession of a handgun concealed inside of a small bag that was draped around his neck. The firearm was discovered to be a stolen 9mm handgun loaded with 17 rounds. In addition GTF recovered over $1,000.00 in suspected drug proceeds and approximately 33 grams of marijuana from Woodruff.

Woodruff was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon By Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession With Intent To Distribute a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony)

Woodruff was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $32,500.00 unsecured bond.
